Sources and Methodology

This page explains how our review was conducted and provides the public sources behind the reference tags used across our Innovation pages. Each reference tag appears like [162]. Where possible, tags link directly to a specific source entry on this page.

Methodology at a Glance

This review prioritizes primary sources: Apple App Store pages (feature descriptions, version history, privacy labels), Google Play listings (feature descriptions, “Updated on” dates, Data Safety disclosures, developer addresses), and developer privacy policies and terms.

Questions to Ask a Developer

If a detail is listed as “not specified,” consider asking the developer the questions below before sharing app data with schools, caregivers, or clinics.

Suggested questions
  • Where is data stored (data residency) and which vendors host it?
  • Is data encrypted in transit and encrypted at rest?
  • How long is data retained, and can users set retention or delete all data?
  • What is the deletion workflow and timeline (including backups)?
  • What export formats are supported (PDF, CSV, JSON) and are exports complete?
  • Are any advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs present?
  • Can the app function offline or store data locally?
  • Can a clinic or caregiver access data, and how is access controlled?
