Aging with a Metabolic Disorder
More people are living longer with metabolic disorders, and aging brings new health considerations, routines, and care needs. This stage is about adapting management to support strength, energy, and quality of life.

Needs May Change Over Time
Appetite, energy, mobility, and daily routines can shift with age. Some people find that management strategies need to be simplified or adjusted. Your clinic can guide what monitoring and targets look like as needs change.
Nutrition, Strength & Function
Maintaining strength and function can become a priority. This may involve reviewing meal patterns, ensuring medical nutrition is optimized (when applicable), and finding movement that supports balance and muscle health.
Medications & Healthcare Coordination
Aging can involve more healthcare providers and medications. It can help to keep an updated list of your condition, dietary needs, medical nutrition products, and clinic contacts. Ask your clinic how to communicate metabolic needs across your broader care team.
Cognitive & Emotional Wellbeing
Emotional wellbeing, stress, and mental load matter at every age. If routines become harder to manage, it may be helpful to discuss supports and simplifications with your clinic team and family supports.
Planning & Support Systems
Some people may benefit from additional planning: meal support, grocery assistance, medication reminders, or help organizing clinic supplies. The goal is continued independence where possible — and support where needed.
