Heads up: We’re doing a bit of work to make these areas easy to navigate. Stay tuned.

Social & Everyday Life
A metabolic disorder should not take you out of life. With planning, communication, and flexibility, many people find ways to participate fully in social events, school, work, travel, and leisure.

Social Inclusion
Feeling included matters. It can help to plan ahead, bring safe options, and create a few “go-to” strategies for parties, restaurants, and family gatherings. Inclusion can look different in different seasons — and that’s okay.

Sharing Your Needs (Simple Scripts)
Some people prefer to keep things private; others share openly. Both are valid. Having a short explanation ready can reduce awkward moments, for example:
• “I have a medical diet, so I brought my own food.”
• “I’m okay — I just need specific foods.”
• “Thanks! I can’t have that, but I’d love to join you.”
|
|
School & Work
School and work routines can support stability — and also create challenges. Helpful strategies may include planning lunches and formula timing, keeping backup supplies, and ensuring key people understand any essential accommodations.
|
|
Travel & Day Trips
Travel is possible — it just takes preparation. Many people use checklists, pack extra safe foods, and plan for delays. When travelling with medical nutrition, ask your clinic about documentation or travel considerations.

|
Leisure, Joy & Belonging
Enjoyment matters. Whether it’s sports, hobbies, cultural events, or simply sharing meals with others, having plans that make participation easier helps protect wellbeing. Thriving is not only about management — it’s about living.
