With experience in clinical trials, pharmaceuticals, and medical affairs, she is now leading clinical development efforts as Lead of Global Clinical Development, Rare and Metabolic Diseases at Otsuka Pharmaceutical. Her focus is on advancing innovative therapies for rare metabolic diseases, including PKU. She is passionate about driving strategic clinical initiatives that align with Otsuka’s mission and contribute to making a meaningful impact on patients’ lives.

She brings over 10 years of international experience in Drug Development, Clinical Development, and Medical Affairs, with a proven track record in leading cross-functional teams and launching novel therapies. Her expertise spans gene transfer therapies, enzyme replacement therapies, and small molecules. She is skilled in representing biotech leaders at global and regional scientific meetings, and she thrives in collaborative environments, working closely with researchers, clinicians, and stakeholders to ensure that medical programs are both scientifically sound and patient-focused.
She holds a Medical degree from the National University of Mexico and a Masters in Biopharmaceuticals from Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona.

In addition to her industry work, Fern serves on the Board of Directors of the BDSRA Foundation, contributing to research and advocacy for Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinoses (Batten Disease).
